The New Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train arc movie released the last year 2020 only in Japan before going worldwide. Even with there is a pandemic going on This move broke the box office record for the highest-grossing movie in Japan in the first week of screening. Demon Slayer has become a global box office sensation, surpassing Your Name and Spirited Away to become the highest-grossing movie at the Japanese box office in spite of the global pandemic. It took only 10 days in japan to gross over 100 million and became the first anime to hit that milestone in that short amount of days with the pandemic. There are even reports of a cinema hall in japan that had to screen the film over 40 times a day. 

After obliterating in Japan Aniplex and Funimation decided to screen the movie in North America on the 23rd of April. After releasing in North America Demon Slayer suppressed most of the highest-grossing films in spite of being a non-American film. Opening at 21 million in North America on the first week of screening. The movie topped out as the fourth grossing film in 2020 suppressing Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet”. Now the film is now sitting at 1# spot worldwide with US$ 474.6 million. Even passing Godzilla vs Kong. 

 “Mugen Train” is not even a traditional standalone feature. The movie is the immediate continuation of the “Demon Slayer” TV series first season. Unlike other anime films with TV counterparts, “Mugen Train” is not a spinoff or a side story with its own canon designed to be more accessible for an audience that may be unfamiliar with the series.
